I have googled and consulted various experts on Stem Cell Therapy. I also have consulted the clinics which do stem cell therapy. While the clinics have ranged from being very bullish to some being slightly bullish in terms of the outcomes for the treatment, my neurologists have cautioned me against it.
One of my neurologist did mention that I could go for it, if I had a “lot” of money to spare. The efficacy of the treatment is still in doubt. He did share an instance of one of his relatives coming back to square one in about 6 months post the therapy. he was of the opinion that it might be a case of all the physiotherapy/speech therapy sessions that might have given the patient a boost and not the actual stem cell therapy.
While some clinics do not admit the patient and administer the therapy as out patient with the patient visiting the clinic everyday, some clinics have a package comprising of a week. During the week, they do tests, scans, stem cell therapy and accompanying physiotherapy as well.
The USFDA cautions against rampant use of stem cell therapy as well. While its efficacy in some forms of cancer is documented, there is no conclusive evidence of it being helpful for MND cases.
After considering all the above, I’ve decided not to go in for Stem cell therapy, unless someone comes up with a very compelling argument in its favour.
